Associated with the Cascadia Symposium on Statistics in Sport (CASSIS), an additional day of training has been proposed for undergraduate and graduate students with an interest in sports analytics, sponsored by the University of Toronto Sports Analytics Group (UTSPAN) through the Connaught Fund.
The proposed program will consist of a day’s training on Friday September 23, 2022 (location in Vancouver to be determined). The training will include introduction to practical data science tools in sports analytics, some collaborative work on a sports analytics problem and talks on current topics in sports analytics. The students will then attend the CASSIS conference at Harbour Centre (Vancouver) on Saturday September 24, 2022. Students should bring a laptop computer to the training session.
All university students are invited to apply for financial support to attend this event. The purpose of this funding is to reduce barriers to participation in sports analytics research and education, especially for individuals from underrepresented groups. Selected students will each receive up to $1500 CAD to support their accommodation and travel, and CASSIS fees will be waived.
